There does not seem to be an extant deed for Richard's purchase of the land surveyed for Francis Kirkland on 16 November 1772 (recorded 8 July 1774). Kirkland received this tract in a transfer from Edward Watts Jr. for whom the land was surveyed 15 Octoner 1763. However, the transaction is referenced in two later deeds when Richard's children , Barsheba and William, sell their interests in the land. In his 1792 will, Richard Clanton left 1/2 of his land to sons, George and Lovick. He left the other 1/2 to son, William. In 1808, Barsheba (and her husband) sold the 1/2 land left to George and Lovick as they died without issue and as their sister.
