    Immigration
    Before 13 June 1802 | Wilkes, Georgia, United StatesG+
Richard John Maddox immigrated before 13 June 1802 to Wilkes, Georgia, United StatesG+. Richard Maddox settled in Wilkes County, Georgia sometime before 13 June 1802. It is not clear at this time where Richard Maddox was born, who were his parents, or what siblings he may have had.

There are three different opinions on these matters. First, John Bennett Bodie suggests that Richard Maddox "was one of 5 brothers who came from Wales about 1790 and settled in Georgia." Bodie's information about the family comes from Miss Leila Kendrick of Columbus, Georgia, a Great-granddaughter of Richard Maddox and Martha Kendrick.

Second, J.R. Maddox, a son of Richard Maddox, suggests that his father was one of 5 children (3 male and 2 female) who travelled from England to Maryland with their widowed father (unnamed) about 1780. Richard then migrated to Wilkes County, Georgia about 1800.

Third, according to Virginia Schierer, a great great granddaughter of George Washington Maddox (third son of Richard Maddox), the "Maddox Book of Remembrance" states that Richard Maddox is from Charles County, Maryland and that his mother was Francis Posey. If this proves to be true, then Richard Maddox was the son of Frances Posey and Thomas Maddox who were married in Charles County, Maryland in 1759.
