Immigration
Before 13 June 1802 | Wilkes, Georgia, United StatesG+ Richard John Maddox immigrated before 13 June 1802 to Wilkes, Georgia, United States
G+. Richard Maddox settled in Wilkes County, Georgia sometime before 13 June 1802. It is not clear at this time where Richard Maddox was born, who were his parents, or what siblings he may have had.
There are three different opinions on these matters. First, John Bennett Bodie suggests that Richard Maddox "was one of 5 brothers who came from Wales about 1790 and settled in Georgia." Bodie's information about the family comes from Miss Leila Kendrick of Columbus, Georgia, a Great-granddaughter of Richard Maddox and Martha Kendrick.
Second, J.R. Maddox, a son of Richard Maddox, suggests that his father was one of 5 children (3 male and 2 female) who travelled from England to Maryland with their widowed father (unnamed) about 1780. Richard then migrated to Wilkes County, Georgia about 1800.
Third, according to Virginia Schierer, a great great granddaughter of George Washington Maddox (third son of Richard Maddox), the "Maddox Book of Remembrance" states that Richard Maddox is from Charles County, Maryland and that his mother was Francis Posey. If this proves to be true, then Richard Maddox was the son of Frances Posey and Thomas Maddox who were married in Charles County, Maryland in 1759.

Land-Lot
13 June 1803 | Wilkes, Georgia, United StatesG+ He was entered in the Georgia Land Lottery of 1805 from in Wilkes, Georgia, United States
G+. The First Georgia Land Lottery was authorized by Legislative Act of 11 May 1803. Richard Maddox (Mattocks), on June 13, 1803, qualified for one draw as a free white male, bachelor, 21 years of age or over, US citizen, and inhabitant and/or taxpayer in Georgia during the period May 1802 to May 1803. He drew a blank in the drawing. Wayne County lots were 490 acres each, and those in Baldwin and Wilkinson were 202 1/2 acres each.
The 1805 Land Lottery shows the following:
Mattocks, Charles 2277 BB (drew 2 blanks) Wilkes
